2020/2021 Coaching Announcements

We have been and will be continuing to work hard to assemble the best possible coaching teams for the upcoming 2020/2021 season. We are excited that most of our coaches from this past 2019/2020 season are interested with returning for the upcoming season. We have also had some great individuals reach out to coach with our club that we will be looking at adding to our team.

We are always looking for positive, outgoing, individuals that are interested with coaching our youth the exciting game of Volleyball.

Coach and Athlete Development Director 17U & 18U - Chuck Harvey

Chuck Harvey has been with our club since 2014. He is a trained Performance coach (Level 3) who has over 3 decades of coaching experience. Most of his volleyball experience has been internationally with the Military National Men’s Volleyball team where he was an athlete, coach and now manager of the program. Last year, his team qualified and represented Canada at the 7th World Military Games in Wuhan, China. An event second in size to the Olympic Games. He has worked with many other national teams in training his coaches and athletes for the last 6 years. He attended several coaching clinics abroad, including the USAV High Performance coaching clinic at the US Olympic training center in Colorado Springs. He was recently presented the 2018 Canadian Armed Forces Dedication to Sports award at the hall of fame ceremony in Ottawa. Chuck still serves in the military and has been a resident in St Albert for 24 years with his wife and two grown up kids who have recently “left the nest”. When not involved with family, military duties and volleyball, he can be found fly fishing throughout Alberta. Chuck is looking forward to supporting our 17U and 18U coaching staff and athletes this coming club season. 

Gavin Little

Coach and Athlete Development Director 15U & 16U - Gavin Little

Gavin is a level 2 certified coach with over 15 years of experience. Gavin was born & raised in Fairview, Alberta. He completed his Grade 12 year at Grande Prairie Composite High School, to pursue volleyball. While in high school, he was asked to play for the GPRC 21U team. He attended Grande Prairie Regional College for 2 years, where he studied Education & was MVP as a right side in only his second year. He transferred to the University of Saskatchewan, where he played for 3 years as a left side & was named team MVP in his final season. Following his CIS career, he was offered his first Pro contract to play overseas. He played in Finland, Switzerland, Holland & Germany before retiring due to injury. He had standout seasons in both Switzerland & Germany. In Switzerland he finished 2nd in the League for points scored as a left side, and in Germany he was team MVP and 1st in the league in kills as a right side.
Gavin has been very active in the volleyball community, giving back by coaching many camps in Canada as well as overseas. With his roots in Edmonton, he plans to stay involved with coaching for many more years to come.

Tiffany Dodds-Little

Coach and Athlete Development Director 15U & 16U - Tiffany Dodds-Little

Tiffany is a level 2 certified coach with over 14 years experience. With versatility at three positions Tiffany Dodds-Little is recognized as one of the brightest young stars of North American volleyball.
Her versatility at three positions has been a strong asset with the Canadian national team as she has proven proficient at right side, left side and setter during her 71 international matches. One of her strongest attributes is her blocking ability and her attacking efficiency continues to improve even though she is and has been one of the Canadian national team’s best attackers. As part of Team Canada at the 2010 World Championship Qualifier, she was named tournament MVP and best spiker.

Tiffany Dodds-Little, who hails from Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, made history in 2008 as the first Canadian female player– and only the second Canadian player–to play professionally in Korea. She’s also played in Spain, Puerto Rico (where she was named to the All Star team) and Japan.

Currently just finished her second season as an assistant coach with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, Dodds Little played with CIS Canada West rival, the University of Alberta. Her three-year CIS career included an exceptional 2006-07 when she was CIS MVP and an All-Canadian as well as earning MVP honours as the Pandas won the national championships.

She continues to coach, and still has aspirations to play Professional volleyball overseas.


Coach and Athlete Development 13U & 14U - Dianne Worthington

Dianne Worthington has a wealth of coaching experience with over 25 years of coaching Volleyball at both Jr. and Sr. High School.  She began coaching club volleyball while doing her education degree, and returned to coaching club in 2008.  She has spent the last eight years coaching for SAS at the 14U, 15U, and 16U levels.  Dianne is currently teaching at Sir George Simpson, coaching both Jr. and Sr. teams there.  Taking over the senior team in 2008, her school team has reached the SAPEC City Finals seven times, winning six championship banners.  A number of players have come through her teams with great success after high school.  Whitney Follette, a member of the 2007/2008 SGS teams - played for Arizona State University and is currently playing pro league in Europe.  Jamie Bain, Hannah Gorgichuk, Alexis Anderson, all SGS players, and Julia Donnelly – all played for SAS with Dianne, from 14U-16U, and are currently playing for NAIT.  Lauren Tremblay – a member of the SGS Team in 2012-2014, currently at Paul Kane, played for the Alberta Summer Games 18U Team, as a 17U player, this past summer (2017).  Dianne is still an active in the sport, being a product of the club system.  She plays both indoor and beach.  We are very excited to have Dianne take on the new role as our Coach and Athlete Development Director for 13U and 14U this coming season.



Brenda Svicenec

Head Coach - Brenda Svicenec

Brenda brings to the club and our athletes over 7 years of competitive club coaching experience. In 2018 season, Brenda was fortunate to experience assistant coaching a women's local ACAC college  team that finished top 5 in Alberta. Brenda is level 1 certified and is close to completing her level 2 with aspirations of Level 3 completions by end of 2020 season. As a fulltime therapist combined with her passion for Volleyball, and all past experience with the sport and life creates a great combination to bring all components of sport training to the team; technical, tactical, and mental focus. She is looking forward to an exciting year and is honored to represent SASVC U18 Green team this season.

Assistant Coach - Dillian Sutherland

Dillian is very excited to be part of the coaching group for the U18 Green team for the 2019/2020 season. This is Dillian's 2nd year assistant coaching with Brenda and for SASVC. A Memorial High School Graduate, starting middle for the senior varsity team for several seasons, and was the recipient of several athletic awards during his student years. Dillian  as a Provincial basketball athlete team member, and subsequent ACAC basketball mens team player had played  for Red Deer College the past 3 years. He is currently level 1 trained and will be continuing working on his level 2 certification. With his athletic background and experience as part of competitive teams has provided Dillian with vast knowledge that he is looking forward to passing on too our athletes this coming season.

Kent Johnson

Head Coach - Kent Johnson

Kent is returning for his 6th season coaching with SAS Volleyball Club.  He is an NCCP Level 2 certified coach who has been coaching club and high school volleyball for 19 years. Other recent coaching endeavours have included SACHS senior girls team and the 2015 Zone 5 Alberta Winter Games team. Kent is passionate about the game of volleyball and loves giving back to the sport and his community. He is married with 4 daughters, and is a teacher in St. Albert. He is looking forward to working with the U17 Women's Green team this coming season.

Alexis Kotronis

Assistant Coach - Alexis Kotronics

Alexis has 6 years of club Volleyball, circulating through different clubs in Edmonton and area where she won 2 provincial bronze medals and tournament MVP. Alexis played all of her high-school years at Ardrossan Jr Sr high school , where she coached and continue to coach various levels for the past 5 season.  Alexis is attending Concordia University and working towards an education degree. This is her 3nd club season being an assistant coach and she is looking forward to the club season ahead to watch growth in both individuals and skill levels of each player !


Kaylee Martyn

Assistant Coach - Kaylee Martyn

Kaylee has accomplished allot in her volleyball career. She started playing club ball with the Pandas for U13/U14. Moved to NAVC for U15 and finished out her club career with the Nooks for U16 and U17. Kaylee was also selected as a Metro AllStar. Once in her first year with her Senior High School team in grade 10 and again in her graduating year in grade 12. Kaylee is currently attending MacEwan University and this summer will be volunteering at Camp Kindle with Kids Cancer Care. Kaylee is a very dedicated and competitive athlete that brings her love for the game to every practice. She started her coaching career with St. Andre Bessette High School coaching the JV program. She continues to give back to her community by coaching Tim Bits soccer.

Jerry Lennox

Head Coach - Jerry Lennox

Jerry has been playing volleyball for 38 years and continues to do so. Injury during tryouts prevented him from playing College ball but he has remained active in the sport through several recreational leagues. Jerry started his coaching career assisting the Senior team at Rudolph Hennig Middle School in Fort Saskatchewan. He then assisted at Our Lady of Angels Middle School and is currently the Women’s Senior Team Head Coach at St. Andre Bessette in Fort Saskatchewan. Coaching is a passion for Jerry and he has a hard time turning it off. He has coached soccer and volleyball in Fort Saskatchewan and is a certified Development Coach in volleyball. He is always open to learning and is currently pursuing his Advanced Development Certification. Jerry is looking forward to the 2019 season.


Stephanie Kuzik

Head Coach - Stephanie Kuzik

This is Stephanie's 3rd year head coaching with SAS and 4th year coaching club volleyball. Stephanie went to Thorhild Central School where she played as a middle and libero on the junior and senior high teams. She played club in Edmonton as a middle for FOG and is currently still playing on a women’s team in the EVA league. She has played volleyball for 13 years and Recently graduated from NAIT with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and works for Knott Insurance as an Account Executive.

Steph and Cassie have played on many teams together since they were in Grade 9. They look forward to working together with the girls and are excited for a positive and successful 2020 season.

Cassie Nicol

Assistant Coach - Cassandra (Cassie ) Nicol

This is Cassie's 2nd full year and 3rd year as an assistant coach with SAS Volleyball Club. Cassie went to Thorhild Central School where she was an outside hitter in junior high, and high school. Cassie played club in Edmonton for FOG, as an OH, and currently plays on a women’s team in the EVA league. She has played volleyball for 10 years and Cassie recently graduated from MacEwan University with a Bachelor Commerce and works for Northlands as an Entertainment Development Specialist.

Steph and Cassie have played on many teams together since they were in Grade 9. They look forward to working together with the girls and are excited for a positive and successful 2020 season


Carter Mckinley

Head Coach - Carter Mckinley

Carter played two years of senior volleyball for Paul Kane where he played Setter/ Power and then played U16 SAS back when they were the St Albert Spartans and also played Setter/ Power. Carter played lacrosse for years until he broke his neck so started coaching lacrosse Junior A minors for three years and last year coached our U15 Women Blue Team. Carter is looking forward to be coaching our U16 Women Blue Team this coming season.

Sierra Gaulden

Assistant Coach - Sierra Gaulden

Sierra played three years of Senior Volleyball for Paul Kane High School where she was a setter/ right side. Also played U13-U14 for Sas when it was saints and then played U15-U17 for Sas and was a setter throughout club. Sierra plays beach co-ed during the summer and was the assistant coach or SAS U15 Blue Team this past season. Sierra is looking forward to working with our U16 Women Blue Team this coming season.

Matthew Law

Head Coach Green Team - Matt Law

Matthew (Matt) Law is returning for his second season of coaching SAS U14 boys advancing from assistant coach to head coach. He has a real passion for the game, as a player for 28 years, a level 3 (Regional) referee with Volleyball Canada and coming off a very success club season with SAS U14 boys team last year. With a work hard, have fun philosophy and an excellent assistant coach Eugene Unrau, they hope to help all members of the team set goals, work toward achieving them, and bring out their potential to be the best player they can be.

Matt grew up in St. Albert playing for Lorne Akins Jr. High, and Paul Kane High School.  He has lived in Sherwood Park and Edmonton but has returned to his roots currently living in St. Albert.  Matt currently works for the City of Fort Saskatchewan as a Utility Operator II, maintaining the drinking water supply and Sanitary lines.

Matt and Eugene are excited to help lead SAS U14 boys team Green to an excellent season.

Assistant Coach Green Team - Eugene Unrau

Eugene Unrau is excited to be back for his second season being Assistant Coach with the SAS U14 boys. Eugene loves volleyball and brings a high energy philosophy to coaching. Focusing on a strong mental game and forming good habits to lay a solid foundation for future development. Encouraging all members of the team to set personal and team goals to bring out the best version of themselves on and off the court.

His Mother first introduced him to the game in Swan Hills, Alberta at the age of 14. Moving to Barrhead, Alberta for high school, he achieved 2 provincial championships (2009, 2010) for AAA high school volleyball. During the final year of high school, he received a volleyball scholarship to Olds College. In his first year there they placed 1st in provincial ACAL volleyball in 2011, earning the college the opportunity to compete in ACAC, where they remain today.

Rob Rubuliak

Coordinator & Head Coach Green Team - Rob Rubuliak

This is Rob's 11th year with the volleyball club. He has been an RCMP officer for 19 years and has coached youth hockey, baseball, soccer and volleyball. He is an NCCP certified volleyball development coach and advanced development coach in training. In the past few years he has coached at RS Fowler, ESSMY and U13 club and instructed in Atomic Volleyball. He currently coaches the senior girls team at ESSMY in St. Albert. He’s looking forward to building on the successes of last year with a tiered cohort at U14 for the 2020 club season. At U14 we’ll continue to build and refine fundamental technical skills while introducing additional technical and tactical skills-systems-strategies in a fun but competitive, dynamic and active training environment.

Karen Smith

Coordinator & Head Coach Blue Team - Karen Smith

Karen Smith has been Denturist in Westlock for the last 18 years, she has mentored and trained numerous staff and students at my clinic in that time. She has been a part of SAS executive for 2 years in the Communications position and been involved with this club since 2014 when one of her daughters started her interest in volleyball.
She helped run practices and drills two years ago for the U15 women group which grew a keen interest in Karen to want to coach our U13 women last year. Karen has played numerous competitive sports in her life including volleyball, golf, fastball, slow pitch, downhill skiing and club badminton. Volleyball has become a true passion for her whole family. Karen is currently working on her Developmental Coach certificate (Level1).
She hopes throughout the season to help young players reach their full potential and feel confident and positive about their club volleyball experience. She I looking forward to a great year!


Sara Rubuliak

Assistant Coach Green Team - Sara Rubuliak

Sara is in her 5th year at the University of Alberta. She played school and club volleyball from U13-U18 in St. Albert and then went on to two years of college volleyball. She previously instructed Atomic volleyball and assistant coached at ESSMY.

Danielle Smith

Assistant Coach Blue Team - Dani Smith

Dani Smith has been playing for SAS since she was 10 years old when she was selected for the U13 team. She has played all her club years with SAS and truly enjoys the friendships and competitiveness of the teams she has been on. Dani recently was privileged to have been selected to play for Team Alberta this year and to represent Alberta in Halifax. Dani currently is Grade 11 student at Morinville Community High School and plays Oh/setter for the Senior Girls Team. She will be playing for the SAS Green U17 team this season and can’t wait to share her knowledge as a player with the girls of the U14 team. She hopes that the players will enjoy playing volleyball as much as she does!

Brittney Zilinski

Head Coach - LIGHTNING - Brittney Zilinski

Brittney has been playing school and club Volleyball for the past 7 years and has also been an assistant coach with our club for the past 3 years. She has been a part of some great teams and has won numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in this time. Brittney was privileged with being selected as Metro Athlete of the week last October and was honoured with being named her high schools 2019 athlete of the year. In the words of her high school coach “Brittney works hard in every aspect of her life, committing to being the best she can be in school, athletics, and the community. She dives head first into whatever she is involved in and is always willing to help those around her.” Brittney is currently attending Grant MacEwan University working on a dual degree in Kinesiology and Education. She is working towards her NCCP level 1 for coaching and is going to continue to play the sport she loves recreationally while she pursues her other passion for coaching. Brittney is extremely excited to be coaching our U13 womens team and is looking forward to working with our young upcoming athletes this coming club season.

Megan Boles

Head Coach - STORM - Megan Boles

Megan started her volleyball passion 7 years ago when she started in Coach George Gibney’s morning program for the St. Hilda Hawks and she has never looked back.  Megan has training and experience in every position except Middle and most recently was the starting libero for her Senior High School team which won the City Championship in their division and she earned the honor of MVP for the season. She has been playing Club Volleyball the last 7 years and transitioned to SAS for a successful 18U season as the starting libero for her team. Megan believes a strong work ethic will carry you through all aspects in life and is a leader on and off the court, leading by example with her positive outlook and competitive spirit. Megan is currently attending Grant MacEwan University obtaining her Bachelor of Commerce with a plan to major in accounting. Megan is currently employed as a rock climbing instructor. She looks forward to coaching the U13 Women’s Teams with fellow SAS Alumni Brittney, to work on developing strong fundamentals while pursuing their love for the game.

Nicole Greer


Nicole brings eight years of volleyball experience both at the school and club level. During her years as a player, she was recognized as tournament MVP, consecutively received High School MVP from Calmar Secondary School. Still, the highlight of her high school career was winning a berth to provincials for the first time in the school's history.  Nicole played U18 for SAS to round out her club career.  She is currently working as an Educational Assistant at St. Benedict's Catholic School. Nicole is looking forward to being a member of the SAS coaching staff. Nicole is excited to be part of the athletic development of young players.


Evan Klein

Head Coach - Evan Klein

Evan has been involved with volleyball since he was 10, with school as well as club teams. Since the end of high school he has been active in the volleyball community as both a player in the EVA men's league, and as a coach for 10 years running at a local Edmonton high school. He has had his fair share of provincial and national tournaments as a player, and as a coach and helped the high school team win multiple city championships. This is Evan's 3rd year coaching with SAS Volleyball Club and he is excited to return as a coach for this club. He is looking forward to growing as a coach while helping the players grow as athletes.

Head Coach Green Team - Damon Clayton

Damon Clayton is a physical education teacher in St. Albert for the past 25 years and has his, Master’s degree in Education specializing in leadership. Along with Damon having 25 years as a Physical education teacher he also has 25 years coaching experience. He is NCCP level 2 certified and has his Level 3 theory. Damon has coached at the club level 2000-2014 with U15-18 girls, as well as U17-18 boys. He coached St. Albert High School Senior Girls 2012-14, coached Junior High 2004-2011, and 2015-2019. Throughout this time his teams have accumulated 5 provincial silver medals (club), and 2 provincial silver medals 3A High School. Damon was also the head coach of Tri Iron Volleyball Camps 2006-2017 and mentored and ran volleyball seminars for Paraguayan Volleyball Association, South America in 2012. Damon is looking forward to working with our U14 boys this coming 2019/2020 club season and we are excited to have a coach with his qualification developing our young athletes.  


Montana Fleming

Head Coach Blue Team - Montana Fleming

Montana has been involved with the volleyball community for the majority of her life. From playing in junior high, to being a setter on her senior high school volleyball team, and playing with SAS Volleyball Club from U15-U17. Montana has spent hours upon hours doing what she loves most, which is playing, coaching, and even being a level 1 certified referee in Volleyball. Besides focusing on her career in the restaurant industry, Montana is remaining active in the sports community by coaching with SAS for her second consecutive year alongside her brother Bryan. She is very excited to see what the upcoming season has to offer for her and the team.

Bryan Fleming

Assistant Coach Blue Team - Bryan Fleming

Bryan is very excited to be going into his second year assistant coaching with Montana. Bryan played school volleyball with Morinville Community High School where he was libero on the senior team from grades 10-12.  Along the way earning quite the trophy case, including 2 zone championships, 2 Western Canadian Challenge championships, and a silver medal at the 2017/2018 3A provincial finals. Bryan played club ball with SAS from U16-U18 and assistant coached the U13 team through the 2018/2019 season. Bryan is looking forward to see what the 2019/2020 season brings!


Anatole Nykolyshyn


Anatole is excited to be part of the SAS volleyball coaching staff this year. With a passion for volleyball that began in grade 6 (by winning the York County Championship in Ontario), he continued to hone his skills for the next 35 years playing high level men’s and co-ed club volleyball in both Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Anatole credits much of his success in volleyball to his early years which was under the guidance of his then coach, Phil Hudson, while attending West Kildonan Collegiate in Winnipeg. (Phil Hudson was recently inducted into the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame). During those formidable years, his high school teams were two time provincial final 4 contenders.

Having coached fastball in St Albert and currently coaching baseball through SAMBA for close to a decade, Anatole is looking forward to using those same skills in the development of these young athletes. He has always recognized the importance of basic skill development in the pursuit of excellence and nowhere is this more important than in volleyball.  

Anatole has carved out a successful career in assisting families and business owners plan for their retirement, working as a Certified Financial Planner with Freedom 55 Financial. This takes years of dedication, a commitment and passion to a long-term dream and continued hard work. Successful athletes need the same kind of work ethic to reach their goals!  

Anatole is looking forward to working with the U13 boys this year!
