Stephen Leggitt to Lead U15 Men’s Thunder Team

With over 35 years of coaching experience across Canada and the U.S., Stephen Leggitt brings a wealth of knowledge and a winning pedigree to the U15 Men’s Thunder program.

The St. Albert Sturgeon Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Stephen Leggitt will serve as Head Coach of the U15 Men’s Thunder team for the 2025 season.

Stephen enters his 36th year of competitive coaching and his first season as a Head Coach with SAS, after assisting the SAS 15U White team last year. A Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) with the Coaching Association of Canada, Stephen is also a Certified Performance Coach with Volleyball Canada and a Level 3 Certified Coach Evaluator.

His coaching journey spans from club volleyball to university programs in both Canada and the United States. Most recently, Stephen served as Head Coach at the University of Alberta, Augustana campus, where he guided the Vikings Men’s Volleyball team to an ACAC gold medal (2014/15), a bronze medal (2015/16), and multiple top-four finishes.

Stephen’s extensive résumé includes leadership roles as Associate Head Coach or Head Coach with programs such as Montana State University Northern, University of Saskatchewan, York University, and the University of Calgary. His coaching career began in 1991 with the Ganaraska Wolves in Ontario, where he led the team to numerous championships, including a national silver medal in 2000/01.

In 2009, upon returning to Camrose, Alberta, Stephen co-led the operations of the Battle River Volleyball Club alongside renowned coach Greg Ryan. He has also contributed to the development of provincial and national talent, coaching with Team Alberta (most recently in 2017) and serving as a Guest Coach with Canada’s Junior National Men’s and Women’s teams.

With his proven track record of success and passion for athlete development, Stephen is set to make an immediate impact with the U15 Men’s Thunder program.
